Gilday Gas Station

The Osage City Historical Preservation Society is rehabilitating Gilday gas station, a 1920’s era White Eagle station at 304 W. 5th, in Osage City, KS. While not official as yet, the restored station may serve as a combination petroleum museum and community visitor’s center. The oldest service station in Osage City, the Gilday Station is located nearby the Santa Fe Railroad Depot.

In its heyday, the station serviced lots of traffic on what was then Hwy. 31 (Holliday Street.) In the 1940’s the building was purchased by the former mayor of Osage City, who operated a trucking line from the site. When the company later moved its headquarters to Kansas City, the building ended its working life and sat abandoned for years. In 1998, the Osage County Historical Preservation Society was formed, in an effort to save the old structure from the demolition list. That being done, the Preservation Society undertook the challenge of restoring the old station.
